Well I was on the tour for the first album.

첫 앨범 투어를 진행 중이었는데

I was in Nashville on my day off

하루 쉬는 날 내슈빌에 있었거든요

and I went into the studio just to kind of play around a little bit.

그때 그냥 작업실에 들려서 잠깐 놀려고 갔다가

And we start some ideas and then..

이런저런 아이디어를 내게 됐고..

I was kind of with the guys I made the first album with and uh..

그때 저는 제 첫 앨범 작업을 함께 했던 분들과 같이 있었거든요

we had this idea and we had like this chorus melody

그때 아이디어가 떠올랐고 후렴 멜로디도 만들었는데

and it just kind of.. it was pretty repetitive

뭐랄까.. 좀 심하게 반복적인 느낌이었어요

um.. the Richard Brautigan book, In Watermelon Sugar was on the table

그러다가 책상 위에 리처드 브라우티간의 저서 In Watermelon Sugar가 놓인 걸 보게 된 거죠

and I was like,

그러고 든 생각이,

That’ll sound cool!

제목으로 하면 멋지겠는데!

So this song became Watermelon Sugar.

그래서 이 곡의 제목이 Watermelon Sugar가 됐습니다

It’s probably the longest that’s ever taken me to finish the song.

아마도 제게 있어 작업하는 데 가장 오랜 시간이 걸린 곡 같은데요

We kind of liked it when we first had it

처음에는 저희 모두 이 곡을 좋아했는데

and then I really hated it for a long time.

갑자기 엄청 싫어지더라구요. 꽤 오랜 기간 동안

And it kind of came back

그러다가 다시 또 생각나고

and it seemed to kind of kept coming back into the mix, so

계속해서 그런 식으로 믹스하는 과정에서 생각이 나더라구요

it’s kind of about like that initial,

이 곡은 뭐랄까.. 그 첫 느낌..

I guess euphoria of like when you start seeing someone, you start sleeping with someone

누군가와 연인이 되거나 잠자리를 가지기 시작했을 때 느끼게 되는 극도의 희열감에 대한 내용인데요

or just like being around someone

아니면 누군가의 곁을 서성이다가

and you have that kind of excitement about you know.. you know..

어떠한 흥분감을 느끼는 뭐 그런.. 그런..

I mean, you know when you like someone, right?

그러니까 누구를 좋아하면 느끼게 되는 그 감정 아시잖아요?

꼭 노래를 듣는 기분이야
